Welcome to my site. I'm excited to share my world of embroidery with you.
Allow me to first introduce myself. My name is Dawn Saladino-Toth. I have been a professional embroideress
and textile designer for the past 16 years.
I prefer to keep things simple and work locally, but I also wanted to create a website to help my overall mission: to
preserve the culture of hand embroidery in this ever-changing world.
I specialize in hand work only. As a believer in the arts and crafts movement, I am working against the use of
machines to create so-called artwork, but really to work against the idea that embroidery itself and the other fiber arts
are not true artforms. In fact, embroidery is one of the most ancient artforms and many of the worlds most talented
needle artists have been born and educated here, and are working alongside me in the United States.
Embroidery is the focal point of all my pieces, though I am also skilled in cutwork, needleweaving, needlemade lace,
quilting, applique, and monogramming. Also, you can be sure that every design, unless otherwise noted, is one of my
own.
I have dedicated much of my life to this work and am entirely self taught, though I have studied the teachings and works
of some of the most celebrated needle artisans of the past, but I am more inspired by the work of the everyday artist.
Exhibitions, either private or worldwide, allow me to creatively thrive on my current following as well as all art patrons
to love the work that I love to create and what is the definition of myself.
My collection partly includes table linens, wall art, quilts, baby items, wearable art, and I am very proud of my bridal
collection that I hope to be expanding in the near future.
This site represents only a few of my hundreds of pieces, so please check back often as I am always finishing something
new. For just as painting or sculpture, embroidery can take a form that is whimsical and expected, or one that is intricate,
elegant and profuse. I have a wide scope and have many works in progress that I hope to share soon.
The love of all artforms has inspired and contributed to the diversity that I hope is evident in my very specific field.
But though the medium seems narrow, my subject matter is broad--including florals, still life, and abstract. I still
believe no machine-made piece can compare to the one made with the love, integrity, and exacting skill of handwork.
Being committed to the art culture as a lifestyle, I am ever pleased when someone takes the time to view my work and
listen to my experience.
